Depositing an Overpayment

Issue: Received a payment that is over the amount due for any posted invoices in Open status.

Set up your Deposit to Customer and enter the amount of the check in the Receipt Amount field. Select all invoices that are open that you would like to apply this payment to. In an invoice of your choosing, adjust the amount in the Applied amount column to reflect the difference. For example, if the check being deposited is for $1000.00 and you have an invoice for $800.00, enter the amount of $1000.00 in the Applied Amount column for that invoice. You should have $0 in the Undistributed Amount filed.

This type of transaction will allow you to select the outstanding credit in the Payment Tendered section of the next Sales Invoice you create for this customer.
