Error Message while posting batches: “Can't compress batch files..invalid archives”

This error message occurs while posting batches. It indicates damage to the file used to store raw data from batch entries. The name of this file is posted.cpz. This file is a secondary backup mechanism. If not recovered you will not longer be able to reprint sales invoices that were posted previously and reprint previous bank reconciliation information.

Here are your options for resolving this problem:

Option 1 for resolving this problem:

We strongly suggest contacting us before implementing this solution.

1. If you have a recent backup of the company from a point when the "invalid archive" message was not happening, restore that company to some "temporary" company name.
2. Exit out of C21 on all computers.
3. In the "live" company, browse to the <companyname>\batch folder and rename the posted.cpz to something like posted.old1.
4. Locate the posted.cpz file in the temporary company just restored, <temporarycompanyname>\batch\posted.cpz.
5. Copy the posted.cpz file from the temporary company batch folder to the "live" company batch folder.

After the solution is accomplished, do at least one batch posting, even if it is some fake update to G/L Configure Company. Do a backup of the company and save that backup for an extended period of time. The point of this is to have at least some reasonable starting company in the event that a company recover is needed.

Option 2

1. Go to a backup of your company data to a point where you were able to post batches without getting the Invalid archive message.
2. Reenter any work done since the time of the backup. (This option would leave you with a complete valid posted.cpz, which could prove useful at some point.)
3. Rename the current posted.cpz file to another name. This option does not imply any loss of accounting data. Your main files used for reporting and further processing should be intact.

Option 3

1. Be sure that C21 is not running on any computer.
2. You need to know the location of your company data. If you are not familiar with that, the Help/About box shows the location of the currently selected company e.g. C:/c21/data/companyname.
3. Using Windows Explorer, locate the batch folder within the company: C:/c21/data/companyname/batch
4. Rename the posted.cpz file contained within to something like posted.old. After this, when you start C21 and begin posting batches, you should not see that warning message anymore.
